Peony

Peonies need the help of ants to open the bloom.
Peonies secrete a sweet type of sap to attract ants to the blossom. The blossom is wrapped tight waiting for the ants to eat the sap loosening the blossom. This allows the bloom to unfold. This photograph was taken at Shore Acres State Park in Oregon.
